MEET JAYLA

Behind the Mic.
I am Jayla Ascue-Breland, a Mass Communication student with a concentration in Broadcast Media and a minor in Recreation Administration at North Carolina Central University. My passion for sports and storytelling has led me to gain hands-on experience in professional sports, podcast production, student-athlete support and sports leadership.
As President of Black Women in Sports at NCCU, I’ve developed my leadership skills while creating opportunities for students to connect, learn and grow within the sports industry. At the same time, I’m continuing to build my skills in interviewing, reporting and media production both in front of and behind the camera.
My goal is to build a career in sports media as an interviewer and reporter, using meaningful conversations to tell the stories of athletes and the people behind the game.
